As promised, here is the next article. I wanted to make a post about the pictures shared by This Guy on discord in order to keep everything on this site and to share my thoughts about each picture.
ā Remember: Every picture features 1 custom-printed card, while all other are official foursouls v2 cards.
CUSTOM CARDS SPECS:
- Paper: "M31 Linen"
- Finish: "BETA"
Let's begin!
Card backs
Let's start with the most infamous back. The treasure:
This is usually the card back that stands out the most when you mix it with real cards so it's what we put the most effort into matching. At least until now.
We are very happy with the results we got this round. If you look really closely you could be able to spot which one is the custom card, but during a normal game it shouldn't be apparent at all! š
And just as a reminder, this is how the first cards we printed looked like:

Loot, characters, souls
These are some more types of cards which we think we got in a pretty good state, at the moment.
We can say the same thing for the loot as with the treasure, you could spot the fake card upon close inspection, but during normal gameplay it shouldn't be noticeable.
The next two types of cards don't matter that much in terms of color accuracy, since they aren't shuffled in a deck, so there's no risk of ruining the gameplay experience.
But luckily they still came out pretty nice!
Eternal items
With eternal items we start to see the main issue we discovered during this print run.
It's pretty apparent, at least to my eyes, how the eternal item back appears more saturated and dark than the other copies.
We have two ideas on why it might be this way.
- The difference in color is caused by the "MPC BETA Finish" that we tested for this order.
- The difference is caused by the deeper depth of the air pockets in MPC's Linen card stock. (more on this later)
We are hoping for it to be the former, since we feel like the BETA finish didn't improve the look and feel of the cards at all, while simultaneously feeling sticky and weird.
Monsters & Rooms
And here they are, the worst of the bunch. š¢
The same issues as the eternal item back appear on these, but in a much more pronounced way. We will have to wait and see if we can get rid of this difference with our next experiment. Fingers crossed to all be the BETA finish's fault. š¤š»
Card Fronts
We believe that matching the colors of the front face of the cards should have a lower priority than the backs since it does not affect gameplay.
However, we are still very happy with how the cards look. āØ
Cardstock Texture
As I mentioned earlier, the air pockets of MPC's linen paper are slightly different than the ones on official cards. Here's a better look of them.

We are still trying to figure out how much this affects the way the cards react to environmental lighting. We will share more once we'll find out.
Until next time! šš»
